Abstract
Worked as a UI designer for KONE corporation for 2.5 years. KONE is a largest elevator company in Finland. As a UI designer I designed interfaces for several digital touch points such as tablet, mobile, desktop-apps, dot matrix displays, and other custom digital interfaces. I was designing user experiences for elevators, automated doors and security gates for KONE's People Flow Solutions. I also helped develop the UI assets by creating micro-interactions and icons that matched the brand guidelines.
Products that I've contributed to have been awarded Red Dot and IF Awards. I’ve also been granted two patents for creating innovative solutions.
My responsibilities
Visual designer
Creating graphics assets, icon design, designing user interfaces and pixel-perfect UIs.UX designer
Prototyping, wireframes, concept designDestination operating panel (DOP)
DESIGN CHALLENGE: How to accommodate varying user roles and building configurations with a simple and versatile control panel?
SOLUTION: Transform the traditional button based interface into a digital touch screen
Destination operating panel is an award winning touch screen solution to replace traditional button interfaces for elevators in modern high-rise buildings. The product has won Red Dot design award and other industrial design awards. My work with DOP was to maintain the product features and design UIs for the new features. It also included designing interactions for complex systems with simple UIs that would eventually help and guide the users of the building. It also included to design for the entire eco-system of KONE guiding devices in the building, which included Security Gates or Doors, Info screens and any other signalization devices. All design and development was done in an agile setup.
I was awarded a patent for the creative shuttle mode in the DOP.

Remote call (iOS)
DESIGN CHALLENGE: How to provide convenience and security to the VIPs and building owners?
SOLUTION: A secure mobile app to remotely call the elevator to a predefiend destination.
Remote call is an application to an order elevator remotely with a mobile phone. My task was to design all the new user flows and map out the new features on an already existing application. I was also designing the final pixel perfect layouts and graphics for this application. I worked together with the development team in an agile setup for a few different projects at KONE, and RemoteCall was one of them.
I was awarded a patent for the creative application concept.
Mini console (Android)
DESIGN CHALLENGE: How to provide remote elevator diagnostics for service technicians?
SOLUTION: A mobile app to access elevator information and faults wirelessly.
Mini console is a mobile service for the service staff. It is mainly used for on-sight elevator monitoring. The mini console can be used to command the elevators and run advanced diagnostics. My role was to design all graphical assets and check the UI consistency together with a UX designer. I helped with the visual design and overall interaction of the product. The project was carried out in an agile setup together with developers and a project manager.

E-Link
DESIGN CHALLENGE: Modernize an elevator maintenance tool
SOLUTION: Redesign the existing application to make it more user friendly and conform to KONE visual guidelines
E-Link is a desktop based maintenance tool to manage elevators. Service staff can control the elevator and run several diagnostics with the tool. The design challenge was to make a complex UI tool understandable, without compromising the power users' efficiency. The main task for me was to redesign the service from an outdated 90s application to match the modern KONE look and feel. Heavy technical restrictions needed to be applied throughout the re-designing process. There were 3 different tools that were to be re-designed under E-link (Elevator monitoring tool, Reporting tool and a playback tool)
Below you can see the glimpse of the final products and some iterations from old to the new KONE look and feel.

KONEcare - proof of concept
DESIGN CHALLENGE: Create a service application for scheduled maintenance and diagnostics using the existing elevator data.
SOLUTION: iPad dashboard for service technicians to monitor elevator status and schedule upcoming maintenance cycle.
KONEcare online is a modernization application for monitoring elevator status and remote reporting capabilities. The tool mainly helps facility and building managers to check the condition of equipment in the building, access reports and monitor future needs, both user and parts related. This was a concept design for demo purposes. I designed a click-through mockup tablet app using HTML, CSS and JS. The prototype was used for pitching the service design idea to higher management at KONE.
