KONE Elevators - Destination operating solutions
I worked through a range of products for KONE on their people flow intellegence product line. The main goal of these products was to have an efficient way for users to navigate through the buildings. I worked with the complete eco-system of these networked product using the Kone user.
My responsibilities
Visual designer
Creating graphics assets, icon design, designing user interfaces and pixel-perfect UIs.UX / Concept designer
Wireframing, prototyping and concept designKONE UI Design assets
KONE GUI design offers simplicity, clarity and automation, high contrast and graphical ergonomics for better usability. In addition, audio feedback, guidance and control through a physical accessibility button give an alternative to the graphical interface.
I created a unique icon set for KONE that ended up being used in several products. Icons were created to match KONE UI guidelines.
Signalization grid systems
I worked with the KONE china team to design and upgrade the new signalization indicators. The main aim was to upgrade the new displays with new KONE look and feel and upgrade the products. The new indicators used icons instead of text. This helped reduce the customization effort of making the panels in multiple languages.
Destination operating panel

Destination operating panel is an award winning touch screen solution to replace traditional button interfaces for elevators in modern high-rise buildings.
My work with DOP was to maintain the product features and design UIs for the new features.
It included designing interactions for complex systems with simple UIs that would eventually help and guide the users of the building.
It also included to design for the entire eco-system of KONE guiding devices in the building, which included Security Gates or Doors, Info screens and any other signalization devices.
All design and development was done in an agile setup.
I was awarded a patent for the creative shuttle mode in the DOP.
KSP585 Destination Operating Panel won the Red Dot award 2014.

Design process
I worked together with requirements manager to collect all use cases. Building had commercial areas, hotels, restaurants and residential areas. All of these had different needs from people flow perspective.
Use Case - Transfer floor
Transfer is when users wishes to go to certain floor, but is instead transferred to another floor. This is due to complex and high rise building setups where elevators cannot ride high distances. Users need clear guidance in such cases.
I created a simple and consistent solution to guide the user to reach their final destination. These solutions were designed to fit any kind of buildings that would have similar requirements.
Guidance on transfer floor
Voice guidance, cleaning mode, next leaving elevator and pin code
Throughout the project I worked with a number of different use cases, for example the following: voice guidance for accessible users, cleaning mode, next leaving elevator and pin code.
Interactive prototypes
These were built to communicate how the DOP will unlock when access card is shown under different use cases.
Mobile app for elevator calls
KONE Turnstile
KONE KT100 is new kind of a security barrier in KONE product range. I worked together with the team of industrial designers and devlopers to come up with a design solution to give a quick and easy guidance for these turnstile access control systems panels.
The turnstile is intergated with the users' access card control and can call for an elevator for the user instantly. This helps users navigate to the guidaded elevators in a much secure and faster way.
KONE KT100 won Red Dot Design Award and iF Award in 2015. I also received two patents for the designs.
