Abstract
Re-conceptualising the Espoo City Library Bus service for the children of Espoo, Finland in collaboration with LeGroup (Learning Environment Group), Department of Spatial Design, Aalto University and the City Library of Espoo. The bus aims to integrate new media technologies for exciting experiences. The project proposed five themes to revolutionise the library bus service. The bus currently operates in Espoo city since 2013.
Design research
As part of my research work, I conducted several workshops with children. I visited different libraries, day care centers and schools around Espoo and Helsinki area. I also interviwed parents, librarians, library bus drivers and teachers to understand what technology means to children at different age groups. I analysed my findings which provided a backbone to my concepts and service idea for the bus.
Service design
Building upon the research for the new library bus for Espoo, five concepts were proposed to revolutionise the service. These concepts aimed to demonstrate how the technology in the bus could be used to facilitate various kinds of workshops and events. Some of the more immersive ideas proposed were the Starry Skies, Gardening, Craft-workshop, Movie-nights, Storytelling and a concept for the regular bus.
